Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC)
You could owe less in taxes or get money back from the IRS

There are two important tax credits that many people miss each year:  the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC).  You may qualify if you worked full-time or part-time in 2018.  You can get credits even if you don't owe income tax.

You may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit if you:

HaveEarned less thanClaim an EITC up to
No children$20,950*$519
1 child$46,010*$3,461
2 children$51,492*$5,716
3 or more children$54,884*$6,431

*The amounts listed apply to married filing jointly.  EITC income limits for single workers are $5,590 lower.  EITC investment income cannot exceed $3,500.

If you have one or more children and earned more than $2,500 in 2018, you may be able to claim up to $2,000 per child under the Child Tax Credit.

You can go to the IRS website for additional information about the EITC and CTC and to find out if you may qualify.

Also, the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs (VITA) helps people file their tax returns for free.  Dozens of organizations offer this program in many communities throughout Pennsylvania.  To find a VITA site near you, call 800-906-9887.
